  • Postdoctoral research position: Biomechanical Analysis of Baseball Pitching

A Post-Doctoral Fellow, Research position is now available to pursue the study of biomechanics of baseball pitching in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, in the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. The successful candidate must have expertise in a field related to musculoskeletal biomechanics, neuromuscular control, and dynamics of human movements. Prior experience with 3D motion analysis is required; candidates with a demonstrated capacity for quantitative analysis of biomechanical human performance data, especially during high-level performance or sports, will be preferred. Prior experience with biomechanical modeling and simulation will also be considered an important strength.

The position is with the Applied Research in Musculoskeletal Simulation (ARMS) Lab, directed by Professor Wendy Murray. In addition to the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the lab is affiliated with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and the Edward Hines Jr., VA Hospital in Hines, IL. The laboratory is physically located in downtown Chicago at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where the successful candidate will also be appointed as a researcher.

The successful candidate will be a part of an interdisciplinary research team engaged in both experimental and computer simulation studies. The ARMS Lab is well-known for work that spans quantification of muscle structure, muscle activity, strength, and function in the upper limb. Simulation work in the lab involves the development, implementation, and interpretation of simulations driven by novel experimental data.

The initial contract for this position is for one year and may be renewable based on evaluation of performance and progress toward the research objectives.

Applications should be sent directly to w-murray@northwestern.edu and should include:

    • The applicant’s CV
    • PDFs of any relevant published works for which the applicant is a primary author

Northwestern University is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer of all protected classes, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
