The Kessler Foundation (West Orange, New Jersey, USA) – Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is recruiting postdoctoral fellows to conduct research in biomechanics, neurorehabilitation and neuroimaging at the Center for Mobility and Rehabilitation Engineering at KF. These two-year fellowship positions are funded by an Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training (ARRT) grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR).
Qualifying candidates must have a doctorate in engineering (e.g. biomedical or related), biomechanics, neuroscience or a related field. Highly motivated individuals with prior research experience in neuroimaging (fMRI, DTI, fNIRS), electrophysiology (EEG, TMS), mobility (gait and posture), biomechanics or motor control are sought. The successful applicants will work as part of teams including research scientists, physicians, physical therapists, study coordinators, engineers, and research assistants.
Responsibilities include:
• Contribute to ongoing biomechanics, neurorehabilitation and/or neuroimaging research related to mobility and motor control
• Work independently or in collaboration to perform dedicated tasks in the assigned timeline
• Be involved in the ARRT fellowship program* by participating in didactic lectures and other training activities
• Assist with experimental setups, collection, and processing of biomedical data
• Utilize existing as well as develop novel analyses of the interpretation of the experimental data
• Submit grant applications to state, federal and private funding sources independently (under supervision) or in collaboration
• Dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed journal publications, conference abstracts, and presentations.
Desirable experience and qualifications:
• A PhD in engineering (e.g. biomedical or related), biomechanics, neuroscience or a related field
• Prior research experience with human subjects, particularly neurologically impaired populations (stroke, TBI, SCI etc.).
• Strong programming, data analysis and computational skills in MATLAB
• For neuroimaging candidates, background and experience in functional and/or structural MRI image processing (DTI, fMRI), and ideally connectivity analysis (resting state functional connectivity, effective connectivity, graph theory-based analysis)
• For biomechanics and neurorehabilitation candidates, prior experience with gait analysis, balance (APA/CPA responses, postural stability assessment), movement analysis is preferred
• Prior experience in signal/image analysis, mathematical modeling and statistical analysis is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*ARRT fellowship program - All fellows participate in an extensive training curriculum and didactic offerings.
