POSITION SUMMARY: The Researcher – Performance Fit Lab contributes to biomechanical testing conducted in the Performance Fit Lab and is responsible for delivering proven performance insights that lead to technologically innovative solutions. The Performance Fit Lab reports directly to the CEO and will execute projects that require collaborative work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to deliver best in class product in regard to performance, fit, comfort, and injury prevention. The department is a keystone that will enable Boa to achieve the corporate strategic initiative of delivering measurable performance fit improvements that are desired by our targeted consumers. This role requires both curiosity and rigor and includes the development, execution, maintenance, and growth of the Performance Fit Lab.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and grow the Performance Fit Lab to quantify the effects of Boa solutions on footwear and human performance in support of the business objectives
- Conduct/support all Performance Fit Lab testing using industry-standard hardware (MoCap, IMU, force), advanced analysis techniques, and newly developed/cutting-edge protocols to streamline data acquisition, analyze findings, and interpret human performance data in a sound scientific manner
- Manage the lab calendar, and- with detail- plan for multiple, simultaneous studies
- Actively recruit test subjects and generate effective recruitment strategies
- Prepare test subjects for data collection in a variety of tests and sports applications (both in the lab and in field)
- Overlay qualitative tester feedback with quantitative results
- Identify opportunities to advance the effects of Boa solutions to enhance performance
- Create reports, visualize data, present findings, and integrate insights in a clear and concise manner for a variety of audiences – technical and non-technical
- Mentor and train new lab members in equipment use, result visualization, and test protocols
- Ensure that all projects meet the needs of the requestors and are completed on time
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in biomechanics, kinesiology, mechanical engineering or biomedical engineering
- 2+ years of experience in a biomechanics lab setting
- Previous experience recruiting research test subjects
- Experience collecting and processing motion data using force plates, cameras, and IMUs
- Comfortable analyzing data using one (or more) of the following: MATLAB/R/Python
- A strong understanding of statistical inference
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment difficulties
- Excellent written and verbal presentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate results from studies to audiences without a biomechanics background
- Highly organized and focused on quality
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- An understanding of resampling methods (such as Bootstrapping, Jackknife, etc.) as well as standard Frequentist and Bayesian inference
- Knowledge of collaborative code practices such as git
- General knowledge of footwear design and application with respect to athletics
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of Researcher – Performance Fit Lab the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Due to an open office plan and the laboratory environment, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
