    The School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering (CPME) at Queensland University of Technology(QUT), Brisbane, Australia is seeking candidates for the position of 'Professor and Chair in Biomedical Engineering and Shoulder Research'.     About the Position
    The selected candidate will provide exceptional leadership in Biomedical Engineering and Shoulder Research, and provide research leadership for the Queensland Unit for Advanced Shoulder Research (QUASR). Research areas of the candidate will include 3D mechanical testing of tissues using advanced robotic systems and mechatronics, with a focus on biomechanics and devices to assist surgery. A strong capability to build relationships across engineering disciplines, research groups and with industry is essential. Candidate will be able to contribute to one or more of the key areas of medical robotics, medical technologies, or advanced manufacturing.

    Candidate will play a collaborative role within the Science and Engineering Faculty, drawing on the outstanding base of research in the Faculty, including 4 Laureate Fellows and significant strength in the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision, and QUT’s Medical Engineering research.

    Candidate will be appointed by the School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering (CPME), and will contribute to developing research in areas one or more of the University Research Strengths in Biomedical and Health Technologies, Robotics, Computational Modelling and Simulation Science or Materials Science and Engineering. This position reports to the Head of School of Chemistry, Physics & Mechanical Engineering for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

    Key responsibilities include:
    • Conduct outstanding and world-class research in joint biomechanics that advances the goals of SEF and QUT
    • Lead the development of Industry partnerships and relationships, particularly with the orthopaedic surgery community
    • Lead and contribute to mechatronics and medical engineering teaching drawing on real world experience
    • Contribute to the development of world-class higher degree research training in biomechanics and mechatronics
    • Provide senior leadership in academic development and direction of research that advances the goals of the Schools, and the Faculty
    • Provide leadership to the development of the research culture of the Schools and in the supervision of research students and support staff
    • Implementing and administering University policy within the Faculty with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety.


    Selection Criteria
    • Completion of a doctoral qualification in Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields or equivalent accreditation or standing.
    • Record of outstanding leadership and ability to capitalise on opportunities within a changing research/teaching/disciplinary context.
    • Outstanding record or research /scholarship and of world-class leadership in research / scholarship, particularly in the area of biomechanics and mechatronics as demonstrated by publications and research income.
    • Proven record of collaborations with orthopaedic industry and surgeons together with evidence of development of medical devices / patents.
    • Significant evidence of clarity as a strategic thinker, able to be adaptive and future oriented in a way that provides real impact.


    Remuneration and Benefits

    The classification for this position is Academic Level E (LEVE) which has an annual remuneration of $AUD214,551 pa. Which is inclusive of an annual salary of $AUD181,298 pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading.
