    About the Position: Position is located at Element Joint Health SVC Agency, Extremity Trauma and Amputation COE, Research and Surveillance, Center for the Intrepid, Fort Sam Houston, Texas conducting research studies aimed at improving the function and quality of life for patients with traumatic extremity injuries, including limb loss.



    About the Position: Position is located at the Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE), Research and Surveillance Division, Center for The Intrepid (CFI), Fort Sam Houston, Texas conducting research studies, applying a wide range of concepts, practices, regulations, policies, precedents and various techniques to complete assignments.

    This position will support the EACE’s mission to; advance medical and scientific knowledge through relevant research that will optimize clinical care and quality of life for Service members and Veterans with traumatic extremity injuries and amputations.

    Responsibilities


    · Execute a systematic research plan to address identified and emerging clinical gap areas within EACE's extremity trauma research portfolio, with particular emphasis on musculoskeletal health within a prolonged field care environment.
    · Oversee the day-to-day operations of research projects to address identified clinical gaps particularly research emphasizing musculoskeletal health within a prolonged field care environment.
    · Provide technical advice/guidance to research team members on new scientific advances, procedures and concepts.
    · Uses the findings of these specialized studies to make recommendations for the advancement of clinical care for affected patients.

    This position is open to US Citizens that are capable of obtaining a Secret security clearance.

    If applying. Be sure to include pdfs of your transcripts showing the classes you've taken and the degrees you've earned. It may appear "optional" on the announcement but if you dig deeper, it is not.

    A couple other tidbits:

    Military Performance Laboratory (MPL) Mission statement
    Primary mission: Conduct scientific research to enable readiness and return Service Members to high function.
    Secondary mission: Tailor research protocols to facilitate best practices for limb restoration.

    Translation for those not familiar with Military initiatives, we tailor our research to enable Service Members to return to high impact/high function activities that encourage them to return to duty. Our secondary mission is interested in determining factors that drive limb salvage vs. amputation decisions.

    MPL Vision Statement
    The CFI research team strives to utilize science based approaches and lead the Military Health System on the development and implementation of advanced treatments for the Service Member.

    Key research initiatives:
    Advance the interfaces between the human and the prosthetic/orthotic device
    Development and clinical implementation of advanced prosthetic and orthotic solutions that will facilitate a return to high function (emphasis on return to duty/deployment/combat)
    Develop rapidly deployablelower and upper extremity orthotic solutions for a prolonged field care environment
    Leverage clinical gait analyses and outcomes data to define long term adaptations to prosthetic/orthotic devices
    Advance rehabilitation plans that enable patients with extremity trauma the ability to return to high function
