Emory University's Motion Analysis Laboratory has a position opening for a Research Technician / Research Specialist / Research Engineer at Atlanta, GA.
Primary roles: To assist with an NIH-funded project focused on design, development, and testing of a virtual reality (VR) game for stroke gait training. The individual will work with a team comprising collaborators from Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD), Georgia Tech, and Emory. The project entails editing and refining code written in C++ and Unreal Engine as well as future integration of the game interface with gait lab hardware and/or wearable sensors.
Skills and qualifications: An undergraduate or master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Biomechanics, Neuroscience, or Physiology. The position can also be converted to a post-doc opening, if appropriate and qualified candidates are interested. Experience with computer programming e.g. C++, Visual Studio, UnReal Engine, Python, Matlab and/or LabVIEW is required. Experience with machine learning and data science methods is desirable.
Secondary roles and opportunities: If interested, the candidate can assist with collection and processing for human subjects data on able-bodied individuals and people with post-stroke hemiparesis. If so, the candidate will be trained in specialized gait software and hardware. The candidate may also learn/assist with ongoing experiments involving neurophysiologic assessments of cortical excitability using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), spinal excitability using peripheral nerve electrical stimulation, and functional electrical stimulation. The individual will work with undergraduate, physical therapy, and PhD students. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research equipment, and will receive training from several Emory PT faculty.
