Position: Postdoctoral researcher
School: Boston University, Robotics Lab and Neuromotor Recovery Laboratory

Overview: Professors Roberto Tron and Lou Awad have an immediate opening for a highly motivated individual to lead an exciting research project at the intersection of robotics, movement science, and clinical rehabilitation. The position centers on the development of a system that fuses data from cameras and wearable sensors to enable activity-based motion assessment and control of powered assistive technologies. This translational project will include development and testing of the technology across laboratory, clinic, and home settings, and will include healthy research participants, people post-stroke, as well as pre-frail and frail older adults. The postdoctoral fellow will interact with a highly multidisciplinary team and be mentored by faculty members from engineering and rehabilitation science. Ideal candidates for this position show strong technical skills, are able to work independently, can organize and lead the research activities toward the project goals, and exhibit excellent communication skills (oral and written).
Duties and responsibilities: Spearhead and coordinate the development and implementation of algorithms for statistical filtering and machine learning from multimodal sensors, and also supervise the relative hardware system integration efforts. In addition, the faculty will provide career development support targeted to the the particular interests and career plans of the individual.
General qualifications:
Willingness to work outside of their discipline to accomplish project goals.
Ability to independently identify and prioritize the different aspects of the project.
Ability to work in a team, while also taking the lead in the work for the project.
Technical qualifications:
Strong experience in writing code targeting robotic, computer vision, or machine learning applications (preferably including a significant experience with the C++ language).
Knowledge in statistical filtering, sensor fusion, and machine learning.
Experience working in Ubuntu Linux
Optional technical qualifications:
Additional knowledge in the following areas, although not required for a successful candidate, will greatly facilitate the execution of the project:
– Experience with the Python language
– Experience with the Robotic Operating System (ROS)
– General knowledge in computer vision geometry
Results from prior work demonstrating the required abilities above are a significant plus; these can include, but are not limited to, publications, publicly available source code, video demos.
Academic qualifications: Completed a PhD degree in ECE, CS or related fields, ideally with a focus on robotics.
