The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (former Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC)), ranked as the number one rehabilitation hospital in the country, has an immediate opening for the position of Motion Analysis Technical Specialistin the Clinical Motion Analysis laboratory. The lab has been established since 1988 and it is underlined by a dynamic multidisciplinary environment with professionals from the fields of engineering, kinesiology, allied health and medicine.

The position involves performing clinical motion analysis for the lower or upper extremities which includes data collection, some interpretation of patient data, and report generation. The Motion Analysis Technical Specialist is expected to support all aspects of clinical research projects related to the analysis of normal and pathological gait patterns within his/her scope of expertise. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to engage in all laboratory educational efforts,including instructional lectures, resident in-services, and clinical tutorials.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s in Biomechanics (through Engineering or Kinesiology) with experience in gait analysis and/or upper extremity motion analysis. A BS degree in biomechanics (through biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, kinesiology, or a related field) with a minimum of 2 years experience in clinical gait analysis will also be considered. It is essential that the candidate has the ability to work with children and adults with neuromuscular disabilities. Knowledge of the treatment approaches available to these patients is desirable. Other requirements include previous exposure to the techniques involved in kinematic, kinetic, and electromyographic data collection, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with laboratory staff, physicians, and research project investigators. The interpretation of pathological and normal gait analysis data is desired. While computer literacy, including the ability to work in Windows environment is required, the ability to program, is highly desired.
