Job Description
General Summary
A Post-Doctoral Fellow and Research Associate position is now available to pursue the study of balance and locomotion in humans with spinal cord injury (SCI) at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formerly Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) located at downtown Chicago. The Post-Doc Fellow will work on a project, which is supported by NIH, to understand the neuromuscular control mechanisms of balance and locomotion in humans with SCI.
A successful candidate should have a background in Biomedical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering, Physical Therapy, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Kinesiology. Some Matlab skills are required, and some experiences working with SCI patient will be a plus, although not required. A moderate level of independence is expected.
The Post-Doc Fellow will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Principal Responsibilities
The Post-Doc Fellow will:
1. Conduct experiments in humans with SCI. 2. Develop, submit and publish the results of research projects in high quality journals and present results at public conferences/seminars when needed. 3. Assist with development of collaborative projects within and outside the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. 4. Apply for fellowships and grants for external lab funding and career development. 5. Participate weekly lab meetings, journal clubs and seminars. 6. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the AbilityLab.
Reporting Relationships 1. Reports directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Ming Wu. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required 1. Requires the academic knowledge associated with a doctorate degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Human Movement Science. 2. Less than 8 years of postdoctoral training. 3. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. 4. Ability to work closely with patients, clinicians, and professional organizations. 5. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills needed to participate as a creative member of a growing research team. 6. Ability to timely plan and to coordinate project completions.
