  • NIDILRR funded ARRT post-doc positions available at NC State/UNC-Chapel Hill

The Closed-Loop Engineering Research (CLEAR) core (https://www.clear-ncsu-unc.com/), consisting of faculty members at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) and North Carolina State University (NC State), is seeking two postdoctoral fellows to participate in a new training program, Combined Human and Rehabilitative Machine System (CHARMS). The fellows will be supported by an Advanced Rehabilitation Research and Training award provided by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research. The goal of the program is to develop the next generation of rehabilitation researchers by focusing on training in three areas: mechanics, controls, and perception. Each postdoctoral fellow will be mentored by a team of faculty members spanning these areas.

The postdoctoral fellow will be able to explore opportunities at North Carolina’s two flagship universities: the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) and North Carolina State University (NC State). The nationally-ranked UNC Hospitals and School of Medicine at UNC-CH provide an excellent clinical environment for fellows to gain experience in medicine, while the College of Engineering at NC State, one of the finest engineering and computer science schools in the world, offers state-of-the-art facilities for students and faculty engaged in vital areas of research and technology transfer. Additional resources include the UNC/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering (https://www.bme.unc.edu/), the UNC Neuroscience Center (https://www.med.unc.edu/neuroscience), Human Movement Science Program at UNC (http://hmsc.unc.edu), the Biomedical Research Imaging Center at UNC (https://www.med.unc.edu/bric), the NSF ERC ASSIST Center at NC State, and the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine.

The qualified candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in engineering, movement science, or psychology. Candidates must be passionate about rehabilitation research, with an interest in broadening their skills to successfully address future needs in rehabilitation. Successful candidates are expected to work with mentors to develop their own research projects, and to develop applications for independent funding. Applications, including a cover letter, CV, and the names and contact information of at least three references, should be submitted to the link shown below. Preference will be given to applications received by October 31. Questions may be directed to Dr. Derek Kamper (dgkamper@ncsu.edu).

Women, members of minority groups, and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply. NC State is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Degree(s) must be obtained prior to start date in order to meet qualifications. NC State participates in E-Verify.
