The Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University invites applications and nominations for the Dopaco, Inc. Distinguished Professorship. The Dopaco Professorship is endowed, having a salary level in the upper range for distinguished full professors at the university as well as a significant annual operating budget. We are especially seeking applicants with expertise in more than one discipline or domain relevant to ISE at NC State or with strengths in emerging areas such as data science and other areas related to ISE.

Candidates are expected to have an earned doctorate degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. The holder of the Dopaco Professorship will provide leadership in the development of research and academic programs, assist in mentoring of junior faculty, participate in interdisciplinary activities, and contribute to department initiatives. Applicants should have an established research program and are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated experience engaging with diversity through activities such as fostering an inclusive environment, working with students from diverse backgrounds, or incorporating diverse perspectives in research. The expected start date for this position is Fall 2020.

The Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is one of only five named industrial and systems engineering departments in the United States and is consistently ranked among the top programs in the country. The department currently has a rich and diverse research portfolio in teaching and research in advanced manufacturing, biomedical manufacturing, health systems, human- systems, logistics, production systems, and systems analysis and optimization. The department houses two state funded centers, including: The Ergonomics Center of North Carolina (, which is the only center of its kind at a U.S. public research institution, and the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (, which is one of the most advanced manufacturing and 3D printing laboratories in the country. The department also supports two other academic programs within the university, including Operations Research ( and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering ( ISE will be joining other engineering departments in NC State’s university/industry research campus ( in Summer 2020. Our location in Raleigh, NC, represents the eastern point of the Research Triangle and places us close to three major universities, a large number of world-class companies, and several leading research institutes.
