The LRMALab sees individuals of all ages, including toddlers, young adults and elderly individuals. The work schedule may be flexible.
About HSS and the Leon Root MD Motion Analysis Laboratory
As part of an orthopaedic and rheumatology specialty hospital (www.hss.edu), the laboratory evaluates a wide range of individuals including pediatric, adult and geriatric in a multidisciplinary environment. In addition to occupational and physical therapists, engineers, medical and administrative staff, the laboratory staff includes students and volunteers. The central philosophy of the laboratory is to examine the relationship between anatomical and physiological structure and biomechanical function to improve our methods of evaluating and treating individuals with neuromusculoskeletal disease.
The laboratory is involved in both clinical and research testing in the areas of orthopaedics and rheumatology. The four areas of focus for research are osteoarthritis, sports, pediatric orthopedics, and rehabilitation.
Leon Root,MD, Motion Analysis Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility for the collection, analysis, and interpretation of human movement data on individuals of all ages with orthopedic, rheumatic, and neurological diagnoses. We are one of 11 labs in the United States to be accredited by the Commission for Motion Laboratory Accreditation, Inc (CMLA). The LRMALab is equipped with a 14-camera motion capture system (MAC), 4six-component force plates (AMTI, Bertec), a 16 channel EMG system (MA300), a comprehensive suite of Novel plantar pressure hardware and software (Emed X andPedar X), instrumented stairs, and several specialized test jigs for the study of the neuromusculoskeletal system. The LRMALabhas both extramural as well as intramural collaborations with Biomechanics, Orthopaedic, Physiatry,Radiology, Rheumatology, and Rehabilitation Departments at HSS.
Requirements of the position include the completion of a bachelor’s degree. Individuals Should be proficient with Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint And Excel). On the job training is available for specialized software applications. Prior experience with Adobe, LabView, MATLAB, SPSS, Visual Basic,and Visual3D is a plus but not required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must. The position is available from September 10,2019 and remains open until the appropriate candidate is chosen. - Assist in the daily activities of the LRMALab under the supervision of the Chief Engineer and the Clinical Supervisor.
- Assist with research projects under the supervision of the Research Scientists.
- Calibration of equipment according to lab standards.
- Data collection including, but not limited to, observational measurements and computer-based measurements.
- Competency with specialized hardware and software for data collection, data reduction, data analysis and data management.
- Maintenance of all laboratory instruments in working order and safe condition. Perform routine equipment maintenance and repairs under the supervision of the Chief Engineer.
- Maintenance of inventory of supplies. Maintains logs for environment of care & equipment.
- Maintenance of testing areas including set-up and clean-up.
- Assist with LRMALab network and computational facilities.
- Protects and safeguards patient and research subject information. Demonstrate proficiency with the EMR (Epic) as required.
- Train and provide assistance to part-time staff, students, volunteers, clinicians, and researchers who utilize the laboratory space, equipment and data.
- Participates in education of staff, community and healthcare professionals (i.e. in-services and community/professional education).
