    Senior Consultant (Lower Extremity)

    Biomechanics Consulting and Research LC (Biocore) is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to manage and grow its lower limb injury research and prevention group. This is a senior position and the person in this role can expect significant leadership opportunities including several engineer direct reports. This is a full-time employee position in Charlottesville, VA.

    Biocore’s mission is to provide the highest level of engineering services and injury biomechanics expertise to clients dedicated to the understanding and reduction of injury. We do this by performing influential and highly cited biomechanics research, maintaining state-of-the-art testing capabilities, and leveraging a global network of leaders in experimental and computational biomechanical engineering.

    Key responsibilities for this position include the following:
    1. Manage the existing lower limb injury reduction initiatives in professional athletes with an emphasis on American football.
    2. Expand the study of lower limb injury to other sports and levels of competition.
    3. Collaborate with shoe and turf manufacturers to enhance the understanding of shoe-surface interaction as it relates to injury causation and the development of injury countermeasures.
    4. Act as primary interface with team equipment managers and field managers for matters related to cleats and turf.
    5. Work with staff engineers to refine testing techniques, data collection, and statistical analyses used to evaluate the efficacy of turf types/composition and shoe cleat patterns.


    The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:
    1. MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Kinesiology, or related fields with an emphasis on biomechanics and injury mechanisms.
    2. At least five years of direct experience in lower limb injury research and/or countermeasure development.
    3. Direct experience with the development and exploration of injury risk functions for lower limb injury including foot and ankle injury risk classification and prediction.
    4. Familiarity with professional and/or collegiate sports injury with a preferred emphasis on American football or soccer.
    5. Demonstrated project management experience


    Travel commitment is anticipated to be no more than 10% associated with presentations, symposiums, conferences, and client visits.
