A postdoctoral fellowship in bone imaging and histology is immediately available at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Drs. Brent Edwards and Roman Krawetz. The research activities of the postdoctoral scholar will focus on pre-clinical interventions/therapies (e.g. surgical, pharmaceutical and/or stem cell therapies) for bone and joint health. The primary outcome measures in many of these experiments will include: i) high-resolution microCT imaging and analysis, ii) bone histology and dynamic histomorphometry, as well as iii) in vivo experimentation and ex vivo mechanical testing. The position is funded through two industry contracts and is open to both domestic and international applicants; however, the applicant must be eligible to apply for MITACS funding (https://www.mitacs.ca/en/programs/elevate). The position offers a salary of $50,000 for one year with the option to extend an additional year.
The successful applicant will become part of a unique training and research environment within the McCaig Instutute for Bone and Joint Health (http://mccaiginstitute.com) and the multidisciplinary Human Performance Laboratory. Applicants must be of the highest caliber with a track record competitive for national or international fellowships. A PhD in Natural Science or Engineering is required. Expertise in one or more of the following techniques is expected: advanced imaging analysis (e.g. micro-CT), tissue and cell biology, animal and biological tissue handing, as well as confocal microscopy, bone histology and histomorphometry. Experience with mechanical testing is desirable. The applicant is expected to have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Applications are currently being accepted and will be until the position is filled.
