JOB OPENING: Biomechanics Research Assistant


JOB SUMMARY:

The successful candidate will expand our dynamic and motivated Biomechanics team, supporting and assisting with coordination of the Sports Surgery Clinic’s clinical service and research activity in biomechanics and motion analysis. This is a full-time position in the Sports Medicine department.


ABOUT SPORTS SURGERY CLINIC:

Sports Surgery Clinic is Ireland's leading private orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital, and is at the forefront of clinical and applied research in the field of athletic groin pain and anterior cruciate ligament injury. The state-of-the art 3D Biomechanics laboratories, fully-equipped with Vicon optical motion cameras and AMTI force platforms, see over 1000 patients each year for both lower-limb and upper-limb biomechanical assessments.


PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform, oversee and coordinate biomechanical data collection, ensuring integrity, documentation and organisation of recorded data.
  • Maintain standards in data quality by undertaking regular system checks on laboratory equipment and by documenting, monitoring and acting on the results.
  • Process and collate biomechanical data in preparation for further analysis.
  • Ensure a high quality of care toward every patient tested in the laboratory.
  • Upskill and train new team members.
  • Undertake basic research tasks as required and collaborate on research projects with other department staff.
  • Continuously review procedures to identify areas for improvement in our service.


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in sports science, biomedical engineering or a related scientific discipline, with prior experience in biomechanical data collection.
  • Analytic and decisive thinking with the ability to prioritize, adapt and manage time.
  • Strong organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Research experience and practical knowledge of research principles.
  • Ability to represent the SSC in a professional manner and handle confidential information.
  • Experience processing and/or analysing data in MATLAB would be desirable but is not essential.
  • Applicants must have existing entitlement to work in the Republic of Ireland.
