Professional Research Assistant Position: A Professional Research Assistant (PRA) position with the 3MAP Lab group at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is currently available. The position supports 3MAP Lab and their rehabilitation clinical trials focused on improving rehabilitation outcomes for older adult populations. The PRA will recruit participants, schedule testing sessions, assist with participant testing, coordinate with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) review and approval, conduct clinical trial registration, manage data collection and participant payment process, compile data for inclusion in publications and reports, order supplies, prepare safety officer reports and assist with general study management.
Preferred candidates will have excellent organizational skills, previous experience with research compliance (human subjects research preferred), excellent written and oral communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office software, ability to work independently and make reasoned decisions, a team-oriented approach, ability to coordinate and supervise students and staff, project management and database management experience (e.g. REDcap), and work characteristics that reflect the ability to be flexible and self-motivated. Publication opportunities will be made available to the successful applicant. A BA, BS degree (or greater) is required, and at least 1 year of clinical research experience (e.g., the IRB submission, approval and compliance process; clinicaltrials.gov requirements and project entries). This position will be full-time with CU healthcare benefits; salary commensurate with experience.

The Muscle Morphology, Mechanics, and Performance Laboratory (3MAP Lab) group is establishing clinical research locations at CU AMC and the RMR VAMC Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Centers (GRECC). 3MAP Lab has a history of conducting applied and translational research concerning the development of sonographic methods for sarcopenia and myosteatosis screening. In addition, we are studying the physiologic advantages of eccentric muscle actions for use in rehabilitation interventions for older adults with chronic conditions. Funded PhD Position: A PhD Research Assistantship within the University of Colorado Rehabilitation Sciences Program, an interdisciplinary graduate school program housed within CU School of Medicine and CU Physical Therapy Program, is available beginning in the Fall Semester 2020. The CU Rehabilitation Science Program is comprised of core and associated faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and research assistants with a disciplines that span physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, psychology, engineering, and public health, all working together to improve the lives of people who live with disabilities. The environment is highly collaborative, with strong mentors and state of the art facilities. While in the PhD Program, students develop a wide range of skills, including research and teaching, and career development skills regarding dissemination, grant writing, and laboratory management.
The dissertation project will support 3MAP Lab sarcopenia and exercise studies at CU AMC and the RMR VAMC, and involve transdisciplinary research activities that incorporate rehabilitative diagnostic imaging, tissue and body composition analysis, clinical assessment, exercise physiology, epidemiology, and rehabilitation/disability studies. Candidates with experience in human movement analysis (e.g., Kinesiology, Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics, Muscle Physiology) and/or clinical experience (e.g., Physical Therapy) are strongly encouraged to apply. VA Research Assistant Position: The Research Assistant duties will be largely in support of the data collection effort at the RMR VAMC clinical research site within the hospital and the GRECC (Bioscience Building). It is anticipated that the position will be available in early 2020. Essential duties associated with the open position include completing functional assessments, assessing muscle strength using dynamometry, and proctoring exercise sessions involving eccentric mode progressive resistance exercise. Additional duties include administrative laboratory tasks, data management, and assistance with study coordination. A BA, BS degree (or greater) is required, with backgrounds in either clinical research coordination or exercise/movement science to be considered. Competency using Labview, SPSS, and ImageJ is desired, but not required. The ideal candidate will have an ability to manage multiple projects in a complex medical center environment, and general abilities with word processing, citation referencing, and spreadsheet programs. Opportunities to present papers and publish will be available for sufficiently motivated candidates. This position will be part-time (0.5 FTE, based on a GS 7 salary rate with Denver/Aurora locality adjustments and VA benefits).
