The Musculoskeletal Imaging and Orthopaedic Biomechanics (MIOB) Laboratory at the University of Vermont is seeking a graduate student in Mechanical Engineering to start in the Fall semester of 2020.
The overarching goal of the MIOB Lab is to improve human health and performance for those who suffer from musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions. MIOB Lab techniques consist of magnetic resonance imaging for musculoskeletal size/shape, quantitative MR metrics for assessment of tissue composition, high-speed x-ray imaging for dynamic bone motion, and computational modeling for articular soft tissue mechanics. The successful student will contribute to each one of these areas, but focus on simulations of soft tissue mechanics.
The incoming student will receive support in the form of research and teaching assistantships as well as a tuition waiver. Applicants are expected to have received a B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Bioengineering; additional disciplines will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants demonstrating relevant research experiences, high GRE scores/GPA, exceptional communication skills, and/or data acquisition/processing skills will be prioritized. Students with diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
