Post-doctoral position in Biomechanics (LAMIH UMR CNRS 8201, Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, Valenciennes, France)
Context: The Laboratoire d’Automatique, de Mécanique et d’Informatique industrielles et Humaines (LAMIH), UMR CNRS 8201 (http://www.uphf.fr/LAMIH/fr/presentation) of the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF - http://www.uphf.fr), is recruiting a post-doctoral fellow for 24 months. The LAMIH is organized into 4 well-identified disciplinary departments: Automation, Mechanics, Computer Science and Human and Life Sciences (SHV). The recruited person will work within the SHV Department, a multidisciplinary department which is essentially based on Psycho-Ergonomics, Neurophysiology and Biomechanics, which means that humans can be apprehended there via a systemic model. The SHV Department has solid collaborations with clinical partners, and in particular with various functional rehabilitation centers. These links allow the SHV Department to have access to specific populations, particularly those with locomotor disabilities. In addition, given the local, national and international contexts, the forces of this Department have focused on human mobility, an essential factor of well-being and social inclusion. The SHV Department thus has as main scientific challenge to promote the maintenance and improvement of mobility and is based in this context on 3 research axes:
1) TechInno axis: Design and validation of innovative biomechanical devices
2) Detectôt axis: Determination of markers of the early degradation of mobility and understanding of the underlying mechanisms
3) Lab2practice axis: Transfer of knowledge and skills from scientific approaches to clinical or field applications
Project title: Development and validation of clinical protocols based on the use of virtual reality associated with an instrumented treadmill.
Project: The LAMIH is in the process of acquiring an instrumented treadmill with 2 treads which will be integrated into the PSCHITT platform (https://www.uphf.fr/LAMIH/fr/PSCHITT), a versatile, dynamic simulator and immersive. This system offers new scientific perspectives within the SHV Department and constitutes a real catalyst and unifier of its 3 research axes. As part of functional rehabilitation, virtual reality will immerse patients in an environment that will be reassuring but also stimulating in order to accelerate locomotor progress. However, it will be necessary to transform clinical protocols to adapt and optimize them with virtual reality.
Main activities
- Literature review (Virtual reality, Instrumented treadmill, Clinical tests)
- Writing for Ethics Committee (CPP)
- Mastery of the instrumented treadmill and virtual reality
- Experiments on asymptomatic and pathological populations
- Data processing

- Scientific communication / dissemination
Knowledge and skills expected
- Virtual reality
- 3D capture and analysis of human movement
- Neuromuscular plasticity
- Programming (Matlab)
- Data analysis and statistics
- Franch, written and spoken
- English, written and spoken
- Relational with patients, clinicians and researchers
Material available
- 2-band instrumented treadmill
- PSCHITT platform
- Platforms and force sensors
- 3D motion capture tools (Vicon, Qualisys)
- EMG, EEG, AED
- Ultrasound
- Ankle dynamometer
- Pressure soles
- Neurostimulator
Location: LAMIH, Campus du Mont Houy, 59 313 Valenciennes, France
Salary: € 4,000 gross charged, i.e. € 2,269 net
Supervision: Dr Christophe GILLET, Dr Sébastien LETENEUR and Pr Emilie SIMONEAU
