  • PhD Assistantships - GMU - School of Kinesiology

    The Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Kinesiology is designed to prepare the next generation of kinesiology scholars. Students will be prepared with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes that will enable them to be professional leaders, educators, and researchers of consequence to impact and transform societal health and quality of life across the lifespan in the global community. As Virginia’s largest public research university, EFHP doctoral students at Mason have access to faculty who are internationally renowned researchers and scholars. In addition, George Mason University supports doctoral students in research and other scholarly activities with state of the art laboratory and other research facilities and a robust portfolio of research and academic support services.

    We are currently recruiting and have funding available for Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA). The KINE faculty research interests are conducted at the Sports Medicine Assessment, Research, and Testing (SMART Laboratory) in the areas of:

    • Biomechanics
    • Tactical Athlete Performance
    • Research and Implementation of Injury Prevention Programs
    • Wearable Sensors



    For the GTAs, courses to be taught would be at the undergraduate Kinesiology Program.

    Funding:
    A variety of graduate research assistantships or graduate teaching assistantships are available. The funding opportunity includes a stipend, and tuition remission (partial or total). Contact the program for a complete list of funding opportunities.

    Requirements
    - Admission to the George Mason University Ph.D. in Education program, KINE concentration
    - Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field
    - Preferred if holds current fitness certification such as ACSM, ACE, NAMS, NCSA, AFFA, NASM, or NFPT
