The program in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Kentucky is seeking a highly motivated individual interested in pursuing a PhD with an emphasis in gait biomechanics and muscle function.
Applicants should have a personal interest in muscle function, biomechanics and lower extremity injuries.
The person in this position will be working directly with Brian Noehren PT, Ph.D. Qualifications:1. A degree in physical therapy or athletic training with eligibility for licensure in the state of Kentucky2. Previous experience in research is helpful.4. Good computer skills5. Good oral and written communication skills6. Interest in mentoring undergraduate students Laboratory: The Biomotion Laboratory at the University of Kentucky currently has 20 motion analysis cameras and multiple force plates including an instrumented treadmill.
Additional equipment includes: a metabolic cart, a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer, numerous computing facilities, Matlab, Labview, and Visual 3D.
The lab has a close relationship with the School of Medicine and many possibilities exist for research involving imaging and other experimental techniques.
The lab is very active with several masters and doctoral students using the lab space for a variety of projects. The position includes a stipend, as well as a tuition waiver for fall and spring semesters and health insurance. Lexington is a beautiful city situated in the rolling foot hills of the bluegrass region of Kentucky.
There are numerous outdoor activities ranging from climbing to caving and kayaking, all within an hour’s drive.
Lexington also has a rich cultural environment with a strong arts and music scene.
