  • Biomedical Engineer Research (GS13), Center for the Intrepid, San Antonio, TX

GS13 Research positions don't open very often! Great opportunity for someone that wants a career conducting research to advance care for those with extremity trauma.

This will be an extremely unique opportunity for someone to be at the center of orthosis/exoskeleton development projects that represents a complete paradigm shift in orthotic treatments and enable our Service Members to remain mobile after severe extremity trauma on the battlefield.

Here’s the background. We do not expect to have air superiority in future conflicts (google, “US Army Multi-Domain Operations” for more). This means medical evacuation times will be drastically increased from hours to days and this creates a situation termed, “prolonged field care”. In addition, unit mobility will be key for survival. Therefore, we need to develop solutions to get our wounded up and moving during these prolonged field care scenarios or they may not survive.

Development of technologies and solutions to address high energy trauma in austere environments is a high priority for the Dept. of Defense. Throughout the past year, we have been actively pursuing ways we can raise to this challenge. These efforts have recently come to fruition and we are now retooling the lab and our personnel to accomplish this. This GS13 engineering position will be at the center of several parallel development projects all focused to find exoskeleton solutions to enable our Service Members to stay mobile after major extremity injury.
