    REPORTS TO: Head of Department
    CONTRACT TYPE: Specific Purpose
    SALARY SCALE: €74,673 - €97,601 p.a. pro rata


    This position is subject to Garda Vetting and Foreign Police Clearance. If you have resided outside Ireland for a cumulative period of 36 months or more over the age of 18 years you must furnish a Foreign Police Clearance (FPC) from the country or countries of residence. Please note; any costs incurred in this process will be borne by the candidate).

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Undergraduate bachelor degree in sport & exercise science or relevant cognate discipline.
    • Doctoral degree (level 10 NFQ) in sports biomechanics or relevant cognate discipline.
    OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    The successful candidate will be expected to teach, and supervise undergraduates and postgraduate research students, secure funding in support of their research agenda and publish in high quality scholarly outlets. The post holder will contribute to the mission of the PESS department in support of the priorities of the Faculty and University strategic priorities. It is expected the post holder will build an international reputation for research and attract high quality postgraduate research students to UL.
    DESCRIPTION:

    An appointee at Senior Lecturer will be expected to publish in high impact, peer reviewed journals, contribute to securing grants in support of their research agenda, provide leadership in biomechanics and sport and exercise sciences, teach/supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in sport and exercise sciences generally and biomechanics in particular. The appointee will have an established international reputation for research, the ability to attract high quality postgraduate researcher students to UL and will make a significant contribution to the research in sports biomechanics and sport and human performance. The appointee will also be expected to make a significant contribution to the various leadership roles within the Department and Faculty.

    Essential Criteria

    • Undergraduate bachelor degree in sport & exercise science or relevant cognate discipline.
    • Doctoral degree (level 10 NFQ) in sports biomechanics or relevant cognate discipline.
    • An established track record of biomechanics research activity and output, international collaborations, and with potential to contribute to the research theme in sport and human performance.
    • Track record of attracting external research grant funding to support their research area.
    • A strong record of scholarly and professional accomplishments.
    • Evidence of high quality peer reviewed publications in areas relevant to sport and exercise biomechanics/sport and human performance.
    • Experience of teaching in 3rd level education and supervision of PhD students to successful completion.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of sport and exercise sciences programme and curriculum development in 3rd level education.
    • Excellent demonstrable knowledge and skills in kinematics and kinetics.
    • Experience of application of biomechanics, e.g. to sports injury, wearable technology, high performance sport.


    Desirable Criteria

    • Evidence of national and international research collaboration.
    • High level competence in experimental design and data analysis.
    • Ability to contribute to applied aspects of sport and exercise science.
