West Virginia University (WVU) is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor to serve as the Program Director for the professional Master of Science in Athletic Training degree program. The academic program in Athletic Training has been relocated from the College of Physical Activity and Sport Science to the WVU School of Medicine Professional Programs Unit. The MSAT program recently received University approval and has applied to the CAATE for a change in level of degree. The Professional Programs unit is home to over 1,000 students enrolled in degree programs including exercise physiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, medical laboratory science, immunology, pathologist’s assistant, physician assistant, and health information management. The School of Medicine is part of a thriving academic medical center, which includes Schools of Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health. Together, the five schools provide robust opportunities and programs for interprofessional education, collaborative practice and research.
The Program Director will lead the professional athletic training degree program within the Division of Athletic Training, a professional program with the Department of Human Performance. The Program Director will be responsible for teaching in the Masters Program, administration of the athletic training education program at all levels, including CAATE requirements for compliance and re-accreditation; quality of student experience, program assessment, maintenance of curriculum development and updates, new program initiatives, and assisting in the recruitment and retention of MSAT students. Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute to a collaborative research agenda with faculty in the Division of Athletic Training along with researchers and clinicians in the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, WVU Sports Medicine, and the School of Medicine Professional and Undergraduate Programs.
The current Athletic Training program began in 1975 as a NATA-approved program and has maintained accreditation since that time and has a close relationship with the Intercollegiate Athletics department. The program currently offers an entry-level Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training as well as an advanced MS degree boasting a large alumni base in the profession. Our students have a 97% BOC overall pass rate. The undergraduate professional program recently been granted 10 years of continued accreditation.

- An earned doctoral degree (PhD preferred) in sports medicine or related field.
- Contemporary expertise in the field of athletic training.
- Previous clinical practice as an athletic trainer.
- Previous teaching responsibilities within an athletic training education program.
- Experience in mentoring student research.
- Demonstrated potential in establishing a successful applied research and scholarship agenda.
- Certification and good standing with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer.
- Eligible for obtaining licensure, or currently licensed in the state of West Virginia as an athletic trainer.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of the appointment
