About This Opportunity
An opportunity exists to work on an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant examining the structural and neural factors that lead to areas of high stress in human muscles. The project will utilise innovative imaging techniques such as microendoscopy and supersonic shear imaging to better understand structural and neural factors that may lead to areas of high stress in contracting human muscles. The research is part of a collaboration between The University of Queensland (A/Prof Glen Lichtwark and Prof Paul Hodges) and Stanford University (Prof Scott Delp).
As part of working on this project and being supported by more senior academic staff, you will develop a coherent research program to support your own emerging research profile. You will additionally be involved in participating in research funding applications, publishing in high quality outlets, and preparing research publications and progress reports.
Our Ideal Candidate
You will have completed, or be nearing completion of, a PhD in the area of biomechanics and/or motor control. This will be partnered with demonstrated expert knowledge in the area of biomechanics and/or muscle mechanics, with experience using ultrasound imaging or other medical imaging, peripheral nerve stimulation and electromyography. Evidence of capacity to work with human research participants, including invasive physiological measures (e.g. finewire electromyography or microendoscopy) will also be looked upon favourably. You will also bring strong computational and statistical skills as required to support this research project. Finally, you will hold well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
