  • 2 x PhD Scholarships - Developmental Science and/or Rehabilitation Science (Australia)

    We currently have TWO PhD scholarships on offer at Australian Catholic University (ACU) in the areas of developmental science and rehabilitation, working within the new Healthy Brain and Mind Research Centre (Note: These are open to Australian passport holders).

    Our Research Program, Development and Disability Over the Lifespan, has a current focus on the interplay between motor and cognitive processes in child development and in adult aging, and their relationship to the development of motor skill and dual-tasking. As well, we are developing and testing innovations in motor training and rehabilitation using virtual-reality (VR) and related technologies.

    The Scholarships are available for high-performing candidates, with some prior experience in motor and/cognitive aspects of development over the lifespan, exercise science or motor rehabilitation, and interest in researching in any of the following aspects:
    • Development of motor cognition
    • Understanding motor and cognitive factors that contribute to motor learning difficulties in children (aka Developmental Coordination Disorder—DCD);
    • Innovations in training motor skills using virtual-reality (VR) and related technologies for children with and without DCD;
    • Innovations in motor rehabilitation using VR and related technologies for acquired brain injury;
    • Understanding factors that contribute to falls in older adults and in neurodisability;
    • Efficacy of motor skill re-training in older adults and in disorders of aging.
    We welcome applications from individuals with a background in either:
    • psychology;
    • human movement/exercise science;
    • rehabilitation science, OR
    • another discipline related to the project.
    Full details can be found at:, Click the tab on, "Specialist research area: Development, Disability and Rehab".
