The Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory (NREL) at the UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to transfer the knowledge in Computational Motor Control to Rehabilitation Applications. NREL is directed by Prof. He (Helen) Huang. This is a great opportunity to work in a highly multidisciplinary research lab. Here in NREL at NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill, we investigate the control mechanism of neuromuscular systems in normal and neurologically-disabled individuals, develop advanced neural-machine interfacing technologies and advanced sensing and control frameworks, and apply these techniques to optimize the function of prosthetics, orthotics, and other assistive devices. NREL is affiliated with the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State University. The nationally ranked UNC Hospitals and School of Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill provide an excellent clinical environment for students to gain experience in medicine, while the College of Engineering at NC State, one of the finest engineering and computer science schools in the world, offers state-of-the art facilities for students and faculty engaged in vital areas of research and technology transfer. Required Qualifications:
- A recent Ph.D. degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
- Research experiences in two or more of the following areas: control theory (optimal and adaptive control, robust control), human motor control and learning (focusing on computational modeling), biomechanics (focusing on gait and balance) and EMG processing, human-related experiments
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in rehabilitation robotics
- Programming skills (MATLAB, C++, LabView etc).
- Record of peer-reviewed publications.
