Job Description

This position is responsible for understanding and communicating to customers testing requirements for biomechanical evaluation of spinal implants, instrumentation and materials. Completes testing, analyzes data and prepares technical engineering documentation. Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting mechanical testing following international standards and internal procedures
  • Translating complex scenarios into reproducible mechanical/biomechanical/FEA test designs (protocol, fixtures, apparatus) to meet customer requirements
  • Analyzing data from testing activities, interpreting results, and preparing clear and accurate technical documentation
  • Understanding regulatory requirements for product testing in domestic and international markets
  • Assisting with cadaveric biomechanical studies including specimen preparation, data acquisition and analysis where needed
  • Working on multiple projects of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires review of a variety of factors.
  • Exercising judgment, critical thinking and reasoning within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action, solve complex problems and analyze/ interpret data
  • Communicating results through strong technical writing and presentation skills - Test Reports, conference submissions, peer-reviewed publications
  • Providing technical support to Development, Regulatory, Marketing and surgeon customers
Basic Qualifications
  • MS in mechanical or biomedical engineering, with strong structural mechanics fundamentals
  • 0-2 years orthopaedic/musculoskeletal research experience, which may include co-op/internship experience
  • BS degree holders will be considered with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Operation of mechanical testing systems (MTS, Instron, etc.)
  • Prior experience with finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment
  • Resourceful problem solver, detail-oriented and organized
Preferred Qualifications
  • Spine industry/academic experience
  • ANSYS/Abaqus FEA - non-linear modeling, scripting
  • Programming skills, e.g. MATLAB, LabVIEW
