    About the Position

    Located within the School of Mechanical, Medical and Process Engineering (MMPE), in the Science and Engineering Faculty (SEF), the Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake high- quality research in the area of Orthopaedic Biomechanics. As part of a research project funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC), the Postdoctoral Fellow will advance knowledge of skeletal biomechanics in healthy adult people through a highly multidisciplinary approach, combining elements of experimental mechanics, imaging, modelling and motion analysis.

    The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to strengthening existing partnerships with external stakeholders, and to help develop new and ongoing partnerships. The Postdoctoral Fellow will also assist with the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and will be an active member of the research community with the School and wider Faculty. As a member of the School, the Research Fellow will also undertake limited teaching into units within the degree/s in their area of expertise. This position reports to the Associate Professor in Biomedical Engineering and Biomechanics for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

    Key responsibilities include:
    • Undertake research into orthopaedic biomechanics using approaches that include experimental mechanics, imaging, modelling and motion analysis
    • Participate and contribute to ethical, high- quality, and innovative research through activities such as quality publications, external grant acquisitions, or conference presentations
    • Actively participate in high-performing multidisciplinary teams and support the development of the research culture of the School, and assist with the supervision of research students both undergraduate and postgraduate
    • Develop and maintain strategic relationships and networks with a wide range of stakeholders including industry and professional organisations and associations
    • Undertake limited teaching, including planning and development of material, in undergraduate and postgraduate units
    • Implementing and administering University policy within the Faculty with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety.
    The successful candidate may be appointed at Postdoctoral Research Fellow Postdoctoral Research FellowLevel A or Level B depending on their level of attainment against the position classification standards outlined in the QUT Enterprise Agreement (Academic Staff). The position classification standards provide the basis to differentiate between the various levels of appointment and define the broad relationships between classifications.
    The University reserves the right to appoint at either classification level.

    Type of appointment
    This appointment will be offered on a fixed- term, full-time basis for two (2) years.

    Selection Criteria
    1. Completion of a PhD qualification in Mechanical Engineering / Medical Engineering or closely related fields, with experience in Biomechanical Engineering
    2. Demonstrated academic research experience in biomechanical engineering evidenced by publications in high quality research journals and conferences.
    3. Demonstrated experience in grant writing and securing competitive research funding.
    4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and the wider research community.
    5. Demonstrated experience and successful track record in supervision of honours and higher degree research students
    6. Proven ability to use initiative and contribute new ideas to the research of orthopaedic biomechanics, along with a demonstrated adherence to ethical standards in research confidentiality.
