  • Postdoctoral Position in Neuromechanical Modeling -- Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA, USA

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to conduct an NIH-funded research on biomechanics and neural control of limb coordination during quadrupedal locomotion. The work will be performed in the laboratory of Dr. Boris I. Prilutsky at Georgia Institute of Technology. The goals of the project are to develop a detailed musculoskeletal model of the cat forelimbs, integrate it with the previously developed neuromechanical model of hindlimbs and spinal neural circuitry, and conduct computational studies to characterize the role of motion-related somatosensory feedback in limb coordination. The results of this project will have important implications for diagnostics and treatment of spinal cord injury. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with neurophysiologists (PI Dr. Alain Frigon, Université de Sherbrooke, Canada) and computational neuroscientists (PI Dr. Ilya A. Rybak, Drexel University, USA).

The candidate should have a background in physics, biomedical or mechanical engineering or related field and be proficient in C++ programming. Knowledge of basic anatomy and neurophysiology is a plus. The applicant must have excellent writing and communication skills and be able to work independently as well as a team member.

As a member of the School of Biological Sciences the successful candidate will benefit from participating in research seminars and other research related activities at the School and Georgia Tech campus, Emory University School of Medicine and Georgia State University. Georgia Tech is a dynamic and exciting research university; it is ranked 5th-8th among US public universities in 2021. The University is located in the heart of Atlanta, a vibrant and culturally-rich city, which is in close proximity to the Appalachian Mountains (2-hour drive), the Atlantic Ocean (4-hour drive) and the Gulf of Mexico (5-hour drive).

To apply, please email Dr. Boris I. Prilutsky ( a statement of interest, CV and contact information for 3 references. Screening of candidates will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.
