JOB OPENING: Research Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Sports Surgery Clinic’s clinical service and research activity in biomechanics and motion analysis. This is a full-time position in the Sports Medicine department.
ABOUT SPORTS SURGERY CLINIC
The Sport Surgery Clinic (SSC) is Ireland's leading Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. A fully private hospital with 7 operating theatres and over 60 beds. The Sports Medicine department and its stand-alone “SSCLab” building is a 14,000 sq ft facility seeing over 40,000 outpatients a year and is at the forefront of clinical and applied research in the fields of return to play and rehabilitation in athletic groin pain, anterior cruciate ligament injury, shoulder reconstruction, running injury and low back pain. The SSC has three 3D motion capture laboratories, two with indoor turf floors to assess athletic groin pain and anterior cruciate ligament injury, and a multi-functional lab (run3D & shoulder laboratory). The laboratory sees over 1500 patients each year across a 6 day week.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform and oversee data collection, ensuring integrity, documentation and organization of collected data.
- Process biomechanical data in preparation for further analysis.
- Ensure a high quality of care toward every patient tested in the laboratory.
- Undertake regular system checks on laboratory equipment.
- Undertake basic research tasks as required and collaborate on research projects with other department staff.
- Assist with the training of Biomechanics Erasmus students.
- Continuously review procedures to identify improvement in our service.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in sports science or a related scientific discipline with prior experience in biomechanical data capture.
- Ability to work successfully in a team to achieve goals with a high level of attention to detail.
- Research experience and practical knowledge of research principles.
- Analytic and decisive thinking with the ability to prioritize, adapt and manage time.
- Strong organisational, interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills.
- Working knowledge of universal precautions and safety guidelines.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to represent the SSC in a mature and professional manner.
- Experience processing and/or analysing data in MATLAB and/or Python would be desirable but is not essential.
- Commitment to translate the organization's vision and values into day-to-day activities, behaviours, and decisions.
