    Position Title: Assistant Professor – Exercise Science

    Position Type: Northern Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, Assistant Professor, tenure track position opening in Exercise Science.

    Responsibilities: This position teaches undergraduate and graduate courses (MS level) in one or more exercise science areas. Other responsibilities include advising undergraduate students and research projects in the Sports Science program, advising graduate students in the Exercise Science master's program and directing master's level graduate theses. This position works with other faculty on the maintenance/supervision of the Exercise Science Laboratory, developing/maintaining a personal program of research and scholarship, and participating in departmental and university committees. This is a campus-based position.

    Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate by August, 2021, in an exercise science related area: biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control or other related field from an accredited institution. Evidence of college teaching, research and scholarship.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to convey oral and written information in understandable ways and communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with others in productive ways. Commitment to teaching with the ability to incorporate active learning strategies.

    Additional Desirable Qualifications: Expertise in clinical exercise science. Certifications such as American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) (e.g., EP-C or CEP), and/or National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) (e.g., CSCS) or equivalent. Ability to mentor and guide student theses and other research projects. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design, including online instruction. Evidence of prior grant funding or funding from other internal or external sources. Ability to establish a research program that engages both undergraduate and graduate students. Preference will be given to those candidates with strong backgrounds in statistics.
