    The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks highly motivated scholars to join our dynamic research team as Research Scientist at the Center for Applied Biomechanics.

    The successful candidate(s) will assume an active role in one or more of a variety of research projects related to traumatic brain injury in automotive, military, and sports applications that require state-of-the-art computational and experimental approaches. The successful candidate(s) will work both in teams and on their own on to develop, utilize, and evaluate advanced physical and computational models of human and animal brain injury prediction. Duties will include academic publishing in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, graduate student mentorship, and collaboration with academic, industrial, and federal research partners.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    • PhD in mechanical or biomedical engineering (or related discipline)
    • Expertise in the biomechanics of traumatic brain injury
    • Experience in the use and development of computational tools for impact analysis, particularly with FE modeling for injury assessment
    • Experience in the design and execution of experimental testing for impact analysis, particularly with biological surrogates for injury assessment
    • Experience in analytical methods such as parametric analysis, machine learning, and statistics, with proficiency in programming languages (Matlab, Python, etc).
    • Experience leading research projects and personnel to meet objectives and deadlines.
    The candidate will also need to have excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work well as a member of a team.
