A fully funded PhD position is available for Fall 2021 in the Development, Experience, & Motor Recovery Lab directed by Dr. Claudio Ferre. Our lab studies the development of motor skills in typically developing children, children with cerebral palsy, and infants at-risk for motor disabilities. We use brain imaging techniques (e.g. DTI, fNIRS), non-invasive brain stimulation (e.g. TMS, tDCS), and behavioral assessments (IMUs) to better understand the relationship between nervous system integrity and hand function in children with brain injury. Our ultimate goal is to use this information to develop targeted therapies that improve function and long-term health outcomes in children with early brain injury. Please see the lab website for more information: https://sites.bu.edu/demrlab/
Candidates with a background in kinesiology, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, developmental psychology, neuroscience, neurorehabilitation (or a related field) are encouraged to apply. Prior research experience with pediatric research is highly desirable.
The PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences is provided through the Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College. Mentorship is provided by exceptional faculty and we encourage exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
