Postdoctoral Fellowships (3 positions) – Supporting Individuals with Disabilities (Toronto, Canada)
    Position: Engineering Health Fellows
    Site: Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (TRI)
    Department: Research
Reports to: Dr. Tilak Dutta, Principal Investigator

    Status: Temporary Full-Time

The Engineering Health team at Kite (the research arm of Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network) is seeking three postdoctoral fellows interested in research to improve safety and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Our team’s goal is to give individuals with disabilities and their caregivers the tools they need to live safely and independently. Our research includes preventing caregiver back injuries, slips on icy surfaces, trips on sidewalks, pressure injuries, as well as improving accessibility standards.

Each position is for a period of two years, at $50,000 per year, to work on one of the following projects:
    • Developing recommendations for evacuating individuals with disabilities in emergencies
    • Applying computer vision and machine learning to analyze pedestrian behaviour on public sidewalks and street crossings
    • Developing accessibility guidelines for Canada's national parks
The selected candidate will be expected to build toward an independent research career by applying for external funding, publishing in high-quality journals, presenting at conferences, with an emphasis of ensuring our work is accessible to lay audiences and contributing to the supervision of trainees.

TRI is part of the University Health Network (UHN); UHN is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto. A major strength of the program is the combination of basic science and clinical research with product design, development and commercialization. The research will take place at the unique Kite facility. For more information about research at Kite and our team please visit kite-uhn.com and engineeringhealth.ca.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • A willingness to contribute to a collaborative, supportive team culture encouraging trust and cooperation among all team members

    • A PhD in a relevant engineering discipline
    • Strong communication skills (both oral and written) must be demonstrated.

To apply, please send a cover letter, CV and a scan of your undergraduate and graduate level transcripts to Tilak Dutta (tilak.dutta@uhn.ca). The cover letter should indicate which of the three positions you are interested in and why you are a strong candidate.

This posting will be closed once we find suitable candidates to fill these positions. University Health Network thanks all applicants; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. UHN has a diverse workforce and is an equal opportunity employer.
