    TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN EXERCISE & HEALTH SCIENCES

    DEPARTMENT: The Department of Exercise and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston

    (http://www.umb.edu/academics/cnhs/ex...alth_sciences/) is one of the fastest growing departments on campus, currently consisting of 11 tenure-track/tenured faculty, 2 full-time lecturers and several part-time lecturers, and approximately 680 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students. The current program offers a Bachelor of Science, and both an accelerated master’s degree and a traditional master’s degree with options to focus on Applied Exercise Physiology or Physical Activity and Health Promotion. Faculty in the department are actively engaged in research and have been funded by various sources including the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, Veteran’s Administration, and other external funding agencies. The faculty’s broad research expertise ranges from the cellular level to community and population studies. Faculty in applied exercise physiology focus on biological mechanisms in adaptations to exercise; neurovascular mechanisms in response to stressors; and biological and neurophysiological mechanisms in obesity and chronic diseases. Faculty in health promotion and disease prevention focus on determinants andintervention research with special populations such as physical activity promotion in older adults, people of color who are cancer survivors, children with special needs, and Latinx and immigrant populations.

    POSITION: A tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin on September 1, 2021. Salary, benefits, and start-up packages are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop or continue to conduct an independent extramurally funded research program to achieve national and international recognition. Potential candidates ideally should have research and teaching expertise in areas related to motor control/learning, movement neuroscience, biomechanics and/or behavioral nutrition and physical activity. Individuals with expertise in other related areas such as rehabilitation/cognitive science, physical activity measurement, and health equity will also be considered. Candidates will be expected to maintain a program of research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and advise and mentor students. Candidates should have experience working with a diverse faculty/staff, student, and educational environment. Other responsibilities include committee service and/or leadership at departmental, college and/or university levels.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Specific requirements: 1) earned doctorate in kinesiology, exercise science, behavioral sciences or related areas by the start of the appointment; post-doctoral experience is highly preferred; 2) publication record in peer-reviewed journals; 3) success or promise in obtaining extramural funding; and 4) university-level teaching experience.
