The PhD project is part of a DFG funded collaborative graduate program between the University of Stuttgart and the University of Auckland, New Zealand. The aim of this project is to estimate muscle passive and active forces in vivo using various experimental methods and generate a muscle model.
The PhD student will mainly be responsible for the design of experiments using ultrasound, EMG, and 3D motion capture, the collection, analysis, and interpretation of the experimental data, and the writing scientific papers. The candidate will have an access to the laboratories in Stuttgart and all the necessary software for experimental data collection and analysis as well as modelling and simulations. The candidate will work in a collaborative environment both in Germany and New Zealand. There will be frequent interactions with other PhD students at the same program as well.

    The candidate will have a
    1. MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering or a comparable degree in a related field
    2. excellent analytical, numerical skills, and problem-solving skills (Experience in ultrasound measurements and/or motion analysis is an advantage)
    3. programming skills in Matlab and Labview and an experience with FEM
    4. very good written and communication skills and fluency in English (German knowledge is an advantage)
    5. self-reliant work attitude in a collaborative environment.
