Open Position for Postdoctoral Fellow to Study Hip Morphometrics and Biomechanics

The Harold K. Dunn Orthopaedic Research Laboratory in the Dept. of Orthopaedics at the University of Utah seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the area of hip morphometrics and biomechanics. The fellow will execute a project that was recently funded by the National Institutes of Health. The major objective of the project is to advance scientific and clinical understanding of the pathophysiology of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) using an integrated experimental and computational protocol (see https://reporter.nih.gov/search/UPEH...tails/10032655).
The fellow will oversee several aspects of the project, including participant recruitment, volumetric imaging, motion capture, and computational modeling. In doing so, they will gain experience in MR arthrography, optical tracking of skin markers, high-speed biplanar radiography, musculoskeletal modeling, statistical shape modeling, and finite element analysis.
The lab is located within the University of Utah Orthopaedic Center, which is its own hospital on campus. Given this proximity, trainees are able to frequently interact with surgeons, physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and other care providers, which provides for a well-rounded research training experience. Collaborations between the Dept. of Orthopaedics, Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, Dept. of Physical Therapy, and The Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute will be leveraged as part of this project, thereby offering further opportunity for trainees to broaden their professional networks.
Requirements:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physical Therapy, or related field
- Experience with motion analysis, volumetric imaging, and computational modeling is preferred
- Strong written and oral communication skills as evidenced by publication record
- Superb organizational skills and proven ability to multitask
Interests:
- Clinical and sports biomechanics, including human motion analysis
- Magnetic resonance imaging
- 3D morphometrics, including statistical shape modeling
- Structural hip deformities, and their relationship to early-onset osteoarthritis
- Python, Matlab, R
