The Stanford University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a Research Technical Manager to provide management and coordination of administrative and operations related functions for the Stanford Injury Prevention and Pitching Performance Lab.
The Stanford Injury Prevention and Pitching Performance Lab aims to be a destination center for throwers of all ages and competition levels. The pitching lab will engage in developing, advancing and applying sciences, engineering and technical research with an emphasis on both optimizing pitching and throwing performance while emphasizing an impact of minimizing the risk of injury in pitchers and throwers of all ages. While the facility will initially be designed to focus on baseball players, it will have the potential to study additional types of overhead throwing athletes, and will leverage Stanford’s vast resources in sports medicine and research. The lab will be built on trust, integrity and respect for the individual, and managed in accordance with the highest of ethical standards.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for baseball, understand human biomechanics and research principals/practices, and drive to establish the lab’s reputation as a destination for top professional and NCAA-level athletes.

Duties include:
- Study and develop performance improvement through the testing of youth, high school and college baseball players.
- Study and develop injury prevention and injury recovery through the testing of youth, high school and college baseball players.
- Manage the daily operations of the pitching lab, which include the opportunity to recruit and train Stanford Lab staff – Physicians, Pitching Coaches, Hitting Coaches, Performance Coaches, Lab Technicians, Scientists.
- Monitor scientific, engineering, and/or technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies to recommend for adoption and implementation.
- Communicate operational objectives to constituents (e.g., MLB & NCAA investors, fellows, players, coaches, and engineering collaborators), and ensure compliance with established University administrative policies and procedures.
- Create opportunities for Stanford orthopaedic residents and sports medicine fellows, as well as, Stanford University undergraduate and medical students, to conduct research projects and write theses and/or dissertations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters in Engineering or Kinesiology.
- Demonstrated experience in human biomechanics.
- Passion for baseball.
- Signal processing proficiency.
- Ability to take concept or mathematical equation and rewrite or make actionable.
- Ability to troubleshoot and understand consumer based and research grade equipment.
- Collaborate with other sports.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently sit, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation and perform desk-based computer tasks, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh to ten pounds.
- Occasionally sit, use a telephone or write by hand.
- Rarely kneel, crawl, climb, twist, bend, stoop, squat, reach or work above shoulders, sort, file paperwork or parts, operate foot and hand controls.
