The College of Arts and Sciences at Shenandoah University, a private, comprehensive university located 70 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., announces an exciting opportunity within the Department of Exercise Science for an Assistant Professor, Exercise Science. This full-time and career-contract track position with rank dependent upon qualifications begins August 2021.
The Exercise Science Department at Shenandoah University is a growing program within the College of Arts & Sciences, and works to prepare students for career opportunities in health and fitness as well as graduate health professions programs such as Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. The Department emphasizes critical thinking, written communication skills, and application of theory and research for evidence-based practice. The Department promotes experiential learning and student research opportunities and participates in campus-wide promotion of health and wellness with the Exercise is Medicine on Campus initiative through the ACSM.
Academics at Shenandoah University are currently operating using the “ShenFlex” format. ShenFlex allows learning to occur both in-person and online, simultaneously, if needed.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the current Exercise Science curriculum. Preference will be given to candidates with experience and proficiency in the areas of Biomechanics, Structural Kinesiology, and Research Methods. Candidates with a history of academic advising and supervision of undergraduate research projects are also desirable. Additional expectations include academic advising, scholarly activity, and service to the department, University, and surrounding communities
Required Skills
Qualifications:
Doctorate in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Science, or related field is preferred; ABD with anticipated completion by May 2021 will be considered. Evidence of excellence in college-level teaching and advising is required, as is scholarly activity. Experience with teaching online or in a hybrid format preferred.
Candidates with NSCA and/or ACSM certification are preferred.
