    Job Description:
    The Biomechanics Lab in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Miami University invites applicants for a (2-year) funded Master’s position beginning Summer 2021 and onward.

    Research Focus:
    Dr. Chagdes’ current research focuses on fall prevention and the improvement in functional independence for people with physical and neurological compromises through the development of smart assistive, diagnostic, and rehabilitative robotic devices.
    Dr. Chagdes’ research is a part of the Miami University’s Center for Assistive Technology (MUCAT). The overarching goal of the Center is to develop solutions to improve the quality of life. See www.miamioh.edu/MUCAT for more information.

    Duties:
    The student will assist in the development of models for human postural balance as well as the collection and analysis of experimental data. The student will also participate in the development of (both journal and conference) publications.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Strong interest or skills in experimental methods: experimental design, instrumentation, data collection, signal processing
    • Strong interest or skills in theoretical methods: mathematical modeling and analysis
    • Strong communication skills: both oral and written
    • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Kinesiology, or a closely related field
    • A grade point average of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale
    • Evidence of interest in mechanical or neurological principles of human motion
    Degree offered:
    Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
