The Penn State Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory, located at the Penn State College of Medicine, has an opening for a biomechanical engineering Postdoc, funded by an R01 from the National Institutes of Health. The position includes conducting finite element simulations of biomechanics following fracture fixation surgery. Validation experiments will also be carried out. The project has a clinical translation emphasis; the Postdoc will interact with orthopaedic surgeons, in addition to engineers and scientists.
Environment: The Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory is part of the Center for Orthopaedic Research and Translational Science (CORTS), & Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at Penn State’s College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. CORTS is a vibrant musculoskeletal research center consisting of 6 faculty PIs and 4 postdocs, among more than a dozen other faculty, staff, and students. All labs are well funded by NIH and DoD grants. Penn State Hershey is a Level 1 Trauma Center and ranked among the top 50 hospitals for orthopaedic care in the nation (by U.S. News & World Report).
Qualifications: The candidate should have a strong biomechanics/solid mechanics background with a PhD in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or similar. The candidate should be a highly motivated, conscientious individual, with a strong publication record. Good written and verbal communication skills are required. Experience in orthopaedic research and finite element analysis is desirable but not required.
