    The University of Vermont (UVM) seeks outstanding candidates for a Visiting Teaching Professor position in the area of biomedical engineering. Successful candidates are expected to hold a graduate degree in biomedical engineering or a related field and to be able to offer courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in any of the following areas: biomaterials; biofluidics; transport; heat transfer; cellular, tissue, and genetic engineering; systems physiology; biomechanics. Exceptional candidates with expertise in other areas of biomedical engineering will also be considered. The anticipated start date is in advance of the Fall 2021 semester.

    UVM’s ABET-accredited Biomedical Engineering Program values teaching highly and prides itself on its hands-on and flexible curriculum. Each year of the curriculum has a design component, and the Core courses are intradisciplinary and incorporate projects and/or labs. Thus, the successful candidate is encouraged to incorporate problem-based learning, projects, and/or labs into their classes. The successful candidate is expected to offer one undergraduate and one graduate course per semester, leaving opportunities for the hire to further develop their own scholarly interests; be they related to their technical specialty or to engineering education. For example, the successful candidate may pursue research and curricular activities that involve the University’s co-located Larner College of Medicine or Center for Biomedical Innovation, or capitalize on the program’s current strengths in biomaterials, biomechanics, brain-computer interfaces, and digital health.

    The University is located in Burlington, Vermont, about 90 miles south of Montreal. Burlington is often rated as the best small city in America for quality of living, and it features year-round outdoor recreation and cultural events. Greater Burlington has a population of approximately 150,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on Lake Champlain, bordered by the Adirondack and Green Mountains.
