A postdoctoral scholar position is available in Dr. Maria Knikou’s Motor Control and NeuroRecovery Laboratory (Klab4Recovery) at the Department of Physical Therapy, City University of New York/College of Staten Island. Our lab utilizes non-invasive electrophysiological approaches to delineate cortical, corticospinal, and spinal neural network plasticity in people with spinal cord injury. The post doc fellow will work in a randomized clinical trial concentrating on cortical and spinal neuroplasticity following transspinal stimulation at rest and during standing followed by robotic gait training in people with spinal cord injury. The post doc fellow will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other research fellows from different disciplines, mentor physical therapy students, and will have access to state-of-the-art laboratory housing equipment necessary for electrophysiological data acquisition and analysis, as well as equipment for movement kinematics. The postdoctoral research fellow will be primarily responsible for the implementation, execution of the study, and further development of analytical software. It is expected that the fellow is involved in all aspects of the research project but also in other experiments, and will be encouraged to pursue additional research areas of interest.
Highly motivated candidates with particular interest in understanding pathological movement control, pathological neuronal circuits, and functional neuroplasticity in people with Spinal Cord Injury are encouraged to apply. Interested individuals with a recent PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering in related fields are encouraged to apply. Physical therapists with a PhD in a related field are also encouraged to apply. Previous experience with electrophysiology and/or neurophysiology approaches in humans is desirable.
