Position Description:
Dr. Jacob E. Earp from the University of Connecticut’s Department of Kinesiology is seeking a highly motivated doctoral level graduate student to start in August 2021. The student will contribute to research related to utilizing exercise and therapeutic interventions to improve muscle quality and tendon function to improve health, physical function and performance.
The student will simultaneously pursue a doctoral degree (PhD) in Exercise Science within the Department of Kinesiology. The Exercise Science doctoral program is highly respected with a strong history of national success (currently ranked #3 in the US when normalized for program size by the National Academy of Kinesiology), as well as the opportunity to gain experience in research mentorship and teaching. Students have the opportunity to individualize their program plan of study through courses in Exercise Science, Public Health, Education, and other related fields.

Position Requirements:
- Master’s degree in exercise science, sports science, biomechanics or a related discipline
- Completion of a master’s thesis or other significant research training (e.g., internship, employment as a research associate, etc.)
- Research interest in exercise physiology and muscular biomechanics
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) with scores above the 50th percentile
Preferred qualifications:
- Demonstration of successful research scholarship (e.g., scholarly presentations, publications)
- Desire to pursue a long-term research-related career
- Professional credentials demonstrating ability to supervise exercise program (NSCA-CSCS, ACSM-EP, ect…)
