Biomechanics, Department of Kinesiology The Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Health at the University of Waterloo is seeking an exceptional scholar and researcher for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Biomechanics with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2022. In special circumstances, qualified candidates who are at the rank of Associate Professor may be considered.
The Department of Kinesiology is an inter-disciplinary department with expertise spanning the scientific study of human movement. A main focus of the department is to discover and explain mechanisms and principles of human movement and to apply this knowledge to the prevention of illness and injury using strategies that optimize health and physical performance. The successful candidate must have a PhD with evidence of an active research program within the area of biomechanics of human movement. We welcome applications from individuals across a range of possible disciplines and research themes including, but not limited to: sports biomechanics, tissue mechanics, musculoskeletal modelling, injury mechanisms and mechanics, occupational biomechanics, or orthopaedic biomechanics. Individuals planning to develop or having both a fundamental and applied focus of research are particularly encouraged to apply. Primary duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervising graduate students. Candidates are expected to have a strong portfolio of scholarly research, evidence of ability to obtain extramural funding and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching. In addition to advancing a personal research program, candidates will have the opportunity to work as part of multidisciplinary teams. Research opportunities exist not only within the Department of Kinesiology and its new 20,000 ft2 Centre for Community, Clinical and Applied Research Excellence (CCCARE), but also within associated research clusters including the Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorder (CRE-MSD), Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology (CBB), and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA).
Based on qualifications, the salary range for this position will range from $90,000 to $130,000. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
