Research Assistant Position in Neuroscience/Biomechanics at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute in Elkins Park, PA

The Sensorimotor Learning Laboratory at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI), located in Elkins Park, PA, has an opening for a Research Assistant (RA) beginning in the fall of 2021. Under the direction of Amanda Therrien, PhD, the laboratory studies how interactions between the sensory and motor systems contribute to the learning and control of movement. This research involves a combination of behavioral assessment, using robotic and optical motion tracking, and computational modeling approaches. The RA will learn to design scientific experiments and write experimental control software for passive kinematics recording and active robotic perturbations of the upper extremity. The RA will also collect and analyze clinical and behavioral data from neurologically healthy individuals and individuals with neurologic disorders. Additionally, the RA will assist with the composition of manuscripts for publication and presentations at scientific meetings. Position Responsibilities:

• Read, understand, and assist in designing experimental protocols
• Program experiment control software in, Matlab/Simulink, Unity/C#
• Help with recruiting, scheduling, consenting, and testing participants according to experimental protocols
• Conduct experiments, including operation of related hardware and software
• Process and analyze acquired data with MATLAB, Python, and R scripts, as directed by PI
• Assist in conducting literature reviews, compiling references, writing manuscripts, and creating presentations for scientific meetings
• Track and manage data collection and subject participant information by Excel and paper filing systems, as specifically required by the Internal Review Board.

Requirements for Applicants:

• B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Neuroscience, Psychology, Kinesiology, or a closely related discipline.
• Proficient in one or more of the following programming languages: MATLAB/Simulink, Unity/C#
• Interest in understanding human motor behavior and the brain.
• Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferences for Applicants:

• Prior research/clinical experience or training.
• Experience and/or knowledgeable in statistics.
