    Junior Researcher – Human Factors Center of Excellence

    We are looking for a junior human factors researcher to support the Human Factors Center of Excellence (HF CoE) at Microsoft in a contract position. As a part of this team, you will be helping to revolutionize the way we think about and design products at Microsoft. Through our world-class interdisciplinary team of human scientists, and state of the art lab facilities, we push beyond the limits of convention to innovate and inspire designs and experiences that truly maximize human capabilities. The transformative work of the HF CoE can be seen in many of the iconic products that Microsoft makes today, including Surface, HoloLens, Xbox, and PC Accessories including mice, keyboards, and headsets.

    This position will support the Biomechanics and Ergonomics group within the HF CoE and will require technical competence in data collection and processing of biomechanical time series data, such as kinematics, EMG, and force data. This position will support multiple programs across the portfolio.

    Responsibilities:
    • Assist with data collection and processing for studies related to physical comfort, ergonomics, and biomechanics.
    • Develop and execute scripts to analyze and interpret time-series data.
    • Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment, computer software, and lab supplies.
    • Provide assistance as needed to other engineers and research staff.

    Skills and Competencies:
    • 1-2 years lab experience, preferably across data collection (calibration, recording data, and processing) and data analysis.
    • Knowledge and understanding of kinematics, force, and electromyography (EMG) data.
    • Strong programming skills for analysis of time series data, preferably Matlab.
    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Human Factors, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
