The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty position in Computational Orthopaedic Biomechanics at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position has an anticipated start date of August 2022.
As part of the University of Florida’s AI 100 initiative, we are seeking candidates in Computational Orthopaedic Biomechanics, especially applicants who can leverage AI and machine learning methods for characterization, modeling and design activities related to lower-extremity and ambulatory biomechanics. The faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the mechanical and aerospace engineering curricula; initiate and sustain externally sponsored research programs; recruit and supervise graduate students; and engage in service activities for the University and the profession. Applicants must possess a PhD in a related field by the start date. Dedication to excellence in research, teaching, and service, and evidence of scholarly achievements are required. The candidate should have a record of or demonstrate the potential for successful proposal writing, PhD student mentoring, scholarship, and classroom teaching.
The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida (https://mae.ufl.edu/) has over 60 faculty members working in all aspects of Mechanical and Aerospace engineering and is expected to grow over the upcoming years. The total student population is approximately 2500 with nearly 200 in the PhD program. The latest US News & World Report has MAE ranked as 16 and 15 for the aerospace and mechanical engineering programs, respectively, among graduate engineering public universities in the US. The University of Florida is the flagship campus of the State of Florida university system and is ranked as the #6 best public US university according to US News & World Report. UF recently announced a $70 million artificial intelligence partnership with NVIDIA to create an AI-centric data center that houses the world's fastest AI supercomputer in higher education. Of relevance to this new faculty position, the HWCOE is in the process of creating the programmatic backbone to UF’s efforts to change the future of education and workforce development through universitywide AI training and experiential learning efforts.
