Instructor and/or Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences (focus: Biomechanics)- Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond
POSITION: Instructor or Assistant Professor; non-tenure eligible, nine-month position (with an opportunity to teach during the Summer session) in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences. The position is permanent with an opportunity for a 3-year contract after 3 consecutive years of positive annual evaluations.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate courses in the department, with an emphasis on HPEX 374, Musculoskeletal Structure and Movement (3 credit lecture + 1 credit lab); and meet service expectations of the department, school, university, community, and profession.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Earned Master’s Degree in Biomechanics, Exercise Science or related field; teaching experience in higher education; competence in teaching undergraduate courses in content areas such as biomechanics, resistance training for health and human performance, exercise testing and prescription, and/or exercise programing and leadership. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred: Doctoral Degree in Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, or related field; record of teaching and service activities in higher education; National Strength and Conditioning Association Certification (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or American College of Sports Medicine Certification (Certified Exercise Physiologist or Clinical Exercise Physiologist). Experience advising undergraduate students and directing undergraduate student research. Prefer candidate with a successful record of teaching and working with diverse students including underrepresented minority students (URM), and other underserved populations.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in the College of Humanities and Sciences is comprised of 16 full-time faculty members engaged in an array of clinical, applied, and interdisciplinary endeavors.
