The Departments of Health & Kinesiology and Physical Therapy & Athletic Training at the University of Utah are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to work across several studies related to neuromechanics of gait and balance in individuals with mild traumatic brain injury / concussion, vestibular injury, and other mobility disorders. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to work with Drs. Peter Fino, Lee Dibble, and Bo Foreman to process, analyze, and publish existing and new biomechanical datasets. A special emphasis will be on 1) developing new analytical approaches for wearable sensor data, and/or 2) designing and building novel instrumentation to examine locomotor control. Fellows will be expected to advance ongoing projects and to collaborate with their mentors, collaborators, and PhD, Masters, and undergraduate students. There will be a significant emphasis on professional development, including training on independent lab operations, writing manuscripts for publication, disseminating results, obtaining funding, and mentoring student researchers (doctoral, masters and undergraduate).
Fellows will be expected to submit an application for external funding to a major federal agency or private foundation by the end of their first year. Fellows will have opportunities to develop collaborations with other University of Utah and Veterans Administration faculty / clinicians interested in mTBI, balance and postural control, biomechanics, rehabilitation, and orthopedics. Collaborations with the Departments of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, Neurology, and Orthopedic Biomechanics are likely and encouraged to be a part of this fellowship.
Requirements:
The position is a full-time (100% FTE) research dedicated fellowship for 1 year guaranteed.
Additional yearly contracts are dependent on the availability of funds and the performance evaluations.

Requirements:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline, such as kinesiology, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or rehabilitation science
- Extensive programming experience (MATLAB preferred, Python, R)
- Advanced knowledge of wearables (e.g., inertial measurement units) including the processing and analysis of raw data
- Experience engineering, designing, and building new research tools to address specific research questions
- A track record of journal publications and/or demonstrated interest in neuromuscular control of movement, postural control, biomechanics
- Experience conducting human subject research and interacting with participants with impaired neuromuscular control
- Knowledge and ability to independently implement statistical analyses on large datasets
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to excel in both team and individual environments
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
